For our first project, we have partnered with Gostomel Animal Shelter, located near Kyiv, Ukraine.
Gostomel Animal Shelter in Ukraine stands as a resilient beacon amidst challenging times, continuing their vital operations even during the ravages of war. Despite facing immense difficulties following 5 weeks of occupation such as shelling, electricity shortages and the looming harsh winter ahead, the shelter persists in providing refuge and care for countless animals in need. Each month, they grapple with substantial expenses to sustain their operations, covering essentials like food, medical supplies, and shelter maintenance. The dedicated staff and volunteers at Gostomel Animal Shelter persevere with unwavering determination, ensuring that even amid adversity, their mission of compassion and protection remains steadfastly upheld.
The expenses at Gostomel Animal Shelter in Ukraine are staggering, often pushing the shelter's owners into debt as they struggle to meet the pressing needs of all the animals. Alongside essential items like food and basic maintenance, funds are allocated for repairing buildings damaged by shelling, parasite prevention, and procuring firewood essential for warmth during the brutal winter months. Costs also include funding sterilization initiatives and purchasing fuel for transporting animals rescued from the front lines to safety. Despite these challenges, there is a hopeful ambition to expand operations with new projects such as constructing a cattery and improving existing dog enclosures. These initiatives not only aim to enhance the living conditions for animals but also underscore the shelter's unwavering commitment to their welfare despite the tumultuous circumstances.
